Significant Role Of Toothbrushing In Periodontal Disease Prevention

It was in the last few decades that there have been dramatic developments in the theory and therapy of periodontal disease. Treatment and prevention of periodontal disease had more focused on the role and significance of toothbrushing. Decades ago, periodontal disease was thought to be untreatable because of the numerous misconceptions and because the attention mainly was focused on the systemic factors. Mostly, teeth were extracted because of the lack of technical know-how about gum conditions. It was in the later studies that experts were convinced that food characteristics whether hard, soft and fibrous contributes directly to periodontal disease. And today, experts points out that the bacterial plaque accumulated on the surface of the teeth is the most important factor that is responsible for causing periodontal disease and the systemic factors help modify the condition. Therefore, it is best the toothbrushing should be practiced to remove the accumulation of plaque.
