It is due to the lack of dental and oral hygiene that swollen gums occur. The swelling of the gums is not a disease in itself, however it can be a symptom of an underlying ailment. Swelling gums can occur due to gingivitis, periodontitis, infection in the oral cavity, lack of proper nourishment, allergies, leukemia. When gums are swollen, numerous symptoms can be observed like gums recede and the teeth appear longer, gums are red and there can be an accumulation of pus, gums become painful, teeth may become loose or shaky, there is an increase of interspaces between the teeth, and in a more inflamed condition, bleeding from the gums can occur.
